Healthcare Costs Skyrocket: America's $5 Trillion Question
The U.S. healthcare system is facing a staggering reality. In 2024, healthcare spending soared to a mind-boggling $5.3 trillion, a 7.2% increase from the already hefty $4.9 trillion in 2023. But what's driving this massive surge in costs?
According to the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the primary culprits are increased health insurance enrollment and a surge in the use of medical services, especially within private health insurance plans. This spending accounted for a significant 18% of the U.S. gross domestic product in 2024, up from 17.7% the previous year, outpacing economic growth.
